The family lived in Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland for a couple of years (son William and daughter Jessie were born there), and were living in Elgin by the time son Joseph was born.
In 1881 William Russell (age 36, Bakers Man) lived at 47 Kings Road in Chelsea, London in the household of his employer David Pennywick.[2] William's wife Jean (27, Baker's Wife) and three children - William (5, Scholar), Jessie (3), and Joseph (1) - were living at 44 High Street in Elgin.
The rest of William's family had joined him in London by at least 1883 (his son John's birth was registered there that year). The rest of their children were born in London.
In 1891 William Russell (age 46, Bakers Journeyman) lived at 87 Lower Sloane Street in Chelsea with his wife Jane (44) and five children: William James (15, Office Boy), Jesse (13), Joseph (11, Scholar), John (8, Scholar), and Margaret (2).[3]
In 1901 William Russell (age 56, Baker) lived at 20 Rawlings Street in Chelsea with his wife Jane (54) and three children: Jessie (23), John (17, Warehouseman), and Margaret (12).[4]
William Russell passed away on 16 Feb 1904, aged 59 years. His death was registered in Chelsea in the first quarter of the year.[5]
"RUSSELL William of 20 Rawlings-street Chelsea Middlesex died 16 February 1904 Administration London 10 March to Jane Russell widow Effects £145 1s. 11d."[6]
