Research Notes

Not shown as having married a Millington. As below, this Anne Russell was not the wife of Sir Thomas Millington. Likewise, she is not otherwise shown to have married a Millington.

Not the wife of Sir Thomas Millington (1628-1704). Sir Thomas didn't marry until 1680, and his three children (Ann, Mary and Thomas) were born after 1680. This Anne Russell, born 1613 could not have been the wife of Sir Thomas because she would have been too old to have had three children born after 1680. The spousal link between this Anne Russell and Sir Thomas was severed in 2022. See Millington Research.

Previous Version. A prior version of this profile associated this Anne Russell as the wife of Sir Thomas Millington (abt.1628-1704), and the mother of Ann (Millington) Lockwood (1647-1702) and John Millington Sr (abt.1645-abt.1720). These associations were all severed in 2022.

The narrative included comments "Anne married Thomas Millington (1620 - 1703) in 1640 in England." and "Their daughter was Lady Ann (Millington) Lockwood (1647 - 1702)." Also, "Their son was John Millington, Sr. (1625 - 1720) ... John died in Connecticut in 1720 at approximately the age of 75. "

Are there any objections to removing her "current last name" as Millington? --Gene

Have begun to gather notes and records about the Millington family. See Millington Research. --Gene

I’ve gathered anything I could find from FamilySearch. My resources are limited. Previously, I was researching with the help of Ancestry.com.

However, I’m no longer a member there. Your assistance is appreciated.

Thank you for supporting WikiTree.

Ann Russell, the daughter of Francis and Catherine, could not have been the woman Sir Thomas Millington married in 1680--she would have been too old to be the mother of his children, all of whom were born after 1680.

See also Thomas Millington (abt.1628-1704) and Millington Research.

Are there any objections to severing her as (1) the wife of Sir Thomas Millington, (2) the mother of John Millington Sr (abt.1645-abt.1720) and (3) the mother of Ann (Millington) Lockwood (1647-1702)?

Once the Millington relationships have been severed, this profile should probably be reconciled with and then merged into Anne (Russell) Digby (abt.1620-1697) (Russell-8199).

How can I help? --Gene

Hi Darlene,

Thank you much for your earlier note, and for all you have done to support the Millington profiles.

As part of the work to resolve conflicts so that Thomas Millington M.D. (1620-abt.1703) can be merged into Thomas Millington (abt.1628-1704), I plan. to sever the association between Thomas and the wife Anne (Russell) Millington of Bristol (1613-1697). (And, her association as the mother of two Millington children will also be severed).

I don't plan on making any changes to link from Countess Anne and her parents.

Thank you again for supporting WikiTree.--Gene

To the extent profile claim, "Their daughter was Lady Ann (Millington) Lockwood (1647 - 1702)," refers to the daughter of Thomas Millington (bef.1630-1704), this seems to have been disproven.

Perhaps remove that claim to Research Notes and include appropriate comments. --Gene

Hoping those with interest in this profile can reconcile conflicts regarding Anne, the daughter of Francis Russell and "Catherine (Brydges) Russell" --

Profile reports this Ann/Anne married Thomas Millington, otherwise Thomas Millington (bef.1630-1704), but how is this not a conflict as to both persons--

(a) As to Lady Anne Russell, see Wikipedia for this Anne Digby, Countess of Bristol, aka Lady Anne Russell, married George Digby, and that their daughter Anne Digby (1646-1715) married Robert Spencer, 2nd Earl of Sunderland. See "Anne Digby, Countess of Bristol"; web content, Wikipedia, and then

(b) As to Sir Thomas Millington, see the WikiTree profile of Sir Thomas Millington for claim, with source, that his wife was "the widow Hannah Anna (_____) King."
