email Question :Hello I am from Emsdale and Almira Vandusen was a grandmother to my great-grandmother, Edna Marshall (nee Russell). I am trying to find out how the Lacelle surname became Russell - do you have any ideas?
My Response :A tree on Ancestry seems quite accurate backed with documentation, and seems to lean towards the idea that Abraham Russell had the surname Lacelle.
He was born Oct 31,1831, St. Benoit, Mirabel, Quebec & died before 1911 in Ontario.Abraham's father Luc had names Rousell and Russell attached which I think may have been spelling variations of Lacelle The English Canadians took the easy way out, adopting Russell as "official spelling".
