Mary Russell was born about 1622. Some say she was born in Pontypool, Monmouthshire, Wales.[1]

Mary married Henry Leonard (about 1618-1695) in 1645.
Children of the Leonard-Russell Marriage
Samuel Leonard, Capt., born in 1648 in Lynn, Essex, Massachusetts. Samuel married Sarah Brooks (1650-about 1690) on 4 February 1678. She was the daughter of William Brooks and Susanna Dunham. He died on 2 April 1702 in Shrewsbury, Monmouth, New Jersey.
Nathaniel Leonard born 16 June 1652 in Lynn, Essex, Massachusetts. He married Hannah Lawrence (about 1664-1714) in on 9 January 1695 in Middletown, Monmouth, New Jersey. Nathaniel died on 11 September 1727 in Middletown, Monmouth, New Jersey.
Henry Leonard Jr. born 14 June 1656 in Lynn, Essex, Massachusetts. He died on 17 April 1739 in Cape May, Cape May, New Jersey.
Sarah Leonard born 27 May 1660 in Lynn, Essex, Massachusetts. Sarah married Job Throckmorton (1650-1709) on 2 February 1684 in Middletown, Monmouth, New Jersey. She died on 5 February 1743 in Shrewsbury, Monmouth, New Jersey.
Thomas Leonard born about 1664 in Lynn, Essex, Massachusetts. He died on 5 January 1714 in Shrewsbury, Monmouth, New Jersey.
Mary Leonard born 13 January 1666 in Lynn, Essex, Massachusetts. She died in the same place in August 1667.
John Leonard, Capt. born in 1670 in Lynn, Essex, Massachusetts. He died in 1727 in Crosswicks, Monmouth, New Jersey.

Note N14881An undocumented source indicates that Henry’s wife’s maiden name was Mary Russell and that they were married in Lynn. If this is true, then the next assumption might be that she was a sister or daughter of Ralph Russell. This Ralph Russell was a less-experienced forge helper with Henry and James Leonard at Hammersmith (the name of the ironworks at Lynn).
