Mary Russell was born 2 October 1767 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia Colony. the daughter of Capt. George Russell and Elizabeth "Eliza" Bean.
Mary's father established the community of Russellville in 1785. He had been granted a large tract of land in Greene Co, North Carolina. The location of the land became part of Grainger County, Tennessee, and later Hamblen County, Tennessee. Locatted along U.S. Route 11E, it lies approximately midway between Whitesburg and Morristown. During the American Civil War, Lieutenant General James Longstreet established a headquarters in the Nenney House just after the Battle of Bean's Station. The house still stands and has been converted into The Longstreet Museum. [1]
Mary and Noah were the parents of eight children, the names of which are listed on his Find A Grave memorial.
Mary passed away in 1857 in Jefferson County, Tennessee and is buried in Joppa Community Cemetery, Rutledge, Grainger County. [2]
