There were several distinct Russell families residing in the Bahamas in the late 1700s - Loyalist Russell families and descendants of very early Bahamian Russells.
This John Russell, born 4 June 1770 in the Bahama Islands, is probably not a family member of the John Russell who arrived in the Bahamas from South Carolina via East Florida.
He married twice: first, Mary Unknown (unlikely Hogg) about 1790, mother of his children; and second, Mrs. Elizabeth Carey Greenleaf, widow of Philip Greenleaf, Jr., 2 October 1835. John's children: Thomas, Elizabeth, George, Sarah, William, Richardson, Benjamin, Mary Ann, and John Russell, Jr.
John and Mary Russell are buried in the Green Turtle Cay, Abaco Cemetery. John's will was dated July 24, 1840 and proved Mar 19, 1841.
[Note: Marriage between a John Russell and Mary Hogg occurred Christ Church, 27 April 1796 - per Book 2, page 79.]
