Biography

Amasa Russell Jr. was a Latter Day Saint pioneer.

Amasa Russell Jr., the apparent son of Amasa Russell Sr. & Mary Carpenter, was supposedly born the 3rd of September, 1793, at Guilford, Windham, Vermont. However, there is no birth record that supports this specific date. In fact, his War of 1812 enlistment record, states he was 22 years old on the 25th of May, 1814, the date of his enlistment. Making a 1792 or 1791 birth. This record also states he enlisted at Cazenozia, Madison County, New York.[1]

The middle name of "Seth" is without any support. Amasa Jr. had a son, Amasa Seth Russell, but there is no primary source document that states he had a middle name Seth.

He is found in the 1840 IL Census, Cass County.[2] Amasa & his wife Hannah, sell land the 6th of January, 1846, while still being of Cass County, IL. (Cass County, IL, Deeds, Book B, 1846-48, pg. 492.)

Amasa Jr. was a founding member of the Mormon church.[3]

His FindaGrave memorial has an image which states there is no gravestone for Amasa, but it does have the unsupported birth date & has a death date of the 29th of December, 1863, at Payson, Utah County, Utah.[4]

Direct line from William White, a Pilgrim on the Mayflower.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Amasa by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Amasa:

There is a generation missing in this Russell line. Barnabas Russell and Judith Penney had Amasa Russell born about 1760, who married Mary Carpenter. They had four children, including Amasa Russell born 3 Sep 1793 who married Hannah Celinda Knight and had seven or more children, including Henry Madison Russell and Cemantha Ann Russell. Can someone make these corrections, please?
