George Russell, Jr. is the son of Captain George Russell and Elizabeth (Bean) Russell. [1] He was born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.
On September 11, 1769, in Granville, North Carolina, George married Rebecca Richards. [2] George and Rebecca were the parents of at least one son, Archibald Russell. In 1778, George was in Washington County, Tennessee.
George's father established the community of Russellville in 1785. He had been granted a large tract of land in Greene Co, North Carolina. The location of the land became part of Grainger County, Tennessee, and later Hamblen County, Tennessee. Locatted along U.S. Route 11E, it lies approximately midway between Whitesburg and Morristown. During the American Civil War, Lieutenant General James Longstreet established a headquarters in the Nenney House just after the Battle of Bean's Station. The house still stands and has been converted into The Longstreet Museum. [3]
In 1804 and 1806, George, Jr. was in Dickson County, Tennesse and the 1820 Census lists him in Franklin County, Tennessee. [4]
