Biography

David Thomas Ryan was born on September 29, 1836, in Campbell, Tennessee, to Drewry Ryan and Sena Anne Walker.

Thomas Ryan married Emily K. Stephens on April 12, 1857.

The family can be found on the 1860 U.S. Census for Marsh Creek, Whitley, Kentucky. Thos. Ryon is listed as a 23-year-old white male, born in Tennessee in about 1837. His wife, Emily C. Ryon, is listed as a 20-year-old female born in Tennessee. Two children are listed: Samuel Ryon, male, 2 yrs, born in Kentucky, and Betty J. Ryon, an infant, born in Kentucky. (Spelling from the census translation has been left intact for this paragraph).

The 1880 U.S. Census for Gasconade, Wright, Missouri, records a large family in the Ryan household. Thomas Ryan, the 43-year-old head of household is listed as white, married, and a self-employed blacksmith who was born in Tennessee. It further states that his father was born in Tennessee while his mother was born in Kentucky. His first wife, Emily Stephens, died in 1876. Mary Ryan is listed as his wife; she is 41 yrs, born in Tennessee. His children with Emily are listed: Samuel Ryan, son, 21 yrs; born Tennessee; Elizabeth Ryan (nicknamed Betty), daughter, 19 yrs, born Kentucky; Senah A. Ryan, daughter, 18, born Kentucky; William Ryan, 15 yrs, born Kentucky; Mary Ryan, daughter, 13 yrs, born Kentucky; Rachel Ryan, daughter, 11 yrs, born Kentucky; Dnora Ryan (Drewry, probably a mistranslation), son, 9 yrs; born Missouri; Calvin, son, 8 yrs, born Missouri; and Alla M. Ryan, daughter, 4 yrs, born Missouri. Mary Ryan's daughter is listed next: Lucinda Ryan, 1 yr, born Missouri. Several step-children are listed next: William Shelton, step-son, 19 yrs; Martha Ghan, step-daughter, 15 yrs; Dorcas Ghan, step-daughter, 13 yrs; Sarah A. Ghan, step-daughter, 12 yrs; John Ghan, step-son, 10 yrs; Ada Ghan, step-daughter, 8 yrs; all born in Missouri.

David Thomas Ryan died on September 4, 1888, in Wright County, Missouri. He is buried in Wolf Creek Primitive Baptist Cemetery in Wright County, Missouri.

Ryan-7077 and Ryan-3376 appear to represent the same person because: Same dates and locattions of birth and death. The father is in the process of being merged.
