"DEATH OF MR. MARTIN RYAN." Queensland Times, Ipswich Herald and General Advertiser (Qld. : 1861 - 1908) 21 July 1904: [1]
DEATH OF MR. MARTIN RYAN. Another very old identity of the district, in the person of Mr. Martin Ryan, of Rockton, passed over to the great majority yesterday morning.
Mr. Ryan came to Queensland in the ship Golden Dream in I863. After spending about 10 months in the town of Ipswich, he settled down at Rockton, near Peak Crossing, and had remained there ever since, engaged in farming pursuits.
He was 90 years of age at the time of his death; his wife died 12 months ago last December, and she was then 88 years of age.
The deceased and his widow lived a quiet life and were highly esteemed. They reared a family, who are well known and respected in the Ipswich district. These comprise four sons—Messrs. Matthew Ryan (Mount Walker), Milo, Patrick, and John Ryan (Rockton), Mrs. R. Ahearn, of Mount Walker, and Mrs. Merelehan, of Rosevale.
The funeral will take place to-day, leaving Rockton at 10.30 a.m. and reaching the One-mile at about 1.30 p.m.
