Grandmother Broh, was a talented and loving grandmother. She was instrumental in the careers of her daughters in the 'Dance World'.
She was and accomplished and talented artist.
She painted mostly in oils, creating large paintings, mostly in a Baroque style. Also carved in wood, as you can see from the photo of her, which I believed is unfinished St. Francis, in our backyard in Sarasota FL. I have several of her smaller carvings, like a beautiful imaginary fawn like animal. I remember that she was supposed to have won a prize for it at one of the 'Chicago Fairs'. Several others are in my Niece's home. She and my grandfather Harry, had a very lovely apartment, in a now restored turn of the century building. Just a short distance from Lake Michigan in down town Chicago. Grandfather would take me fishing to Belmont Harbor. A short walk.
She introduced me (father's side British) to potato pancakes and other German dishes. Grandfather Harry was a quiet man, with one liner jokes. He was a 'Motorman' on the 'Red Rockets' streetcars. I have his Union Cert. from 1909. He worked for the CSA and CTA for 50 years. They moved to Sarasota after Harry's retirement. Many of grandmothers paintings were lost with the sale of their home.
