Events

Joachim SACHS came from Egeln near Magdeburg. He became a burgher in 1691. He owned the farm Sachsenburg on the Kuilsrivier. Joachim married Susanna HOLSWIG from Haszleben in Thuringia c 1680. She came to South Africa in 1691 with their four children. The family repatriated in 1705. [4]
The SACHS family returned to the Cape in 1706, and Joachim worked for his brother, Peter Andreas. Peter Andreas was married to Jannetje Floris (daughter of Floris Slabbert). His second marriage was to Christina de Vyff (daughter of the Chinese Abraham de Vyff and Maria van Batavia) [4]:
Children:
b1 Johann Paulus born in Magdeburg b. c 1680
b2 Maria Margaretha born in Gusten, X Cornelis Opitz, XX Pieter Cornelis Roeloffs
b3 Maria Sibilla born b. b 1691 in Gusten, X 8 March 1705 Johann Christoffel Hack, XX 1 May 1712 Pieter Swanepoel
b4 Peter Andreas born in Gusten,
Emigration, 1690, Maagdeburg, Germany. Residence, 1691, farm "Saxenburg", Stellenbosch. Mentioned as burgher at Stellenbosch since 1691, owner of the farm “Sachsenburg” on the Kuilsrivier. ~ Susanna Holswig of Haszleben in Thuringia, who came out in 1691 with 4 children (names not mentioned). S. repatriated 1705 with his wife and four children. [5] Sachse's children seem to have been Johann Paulus, Maria Margaretha, Maria Sibilla and Peter Andreas, whose father was Johann Joachim Sachse, in 1716 resident at Quedlinburg. The birthplace of Johann Paulus is given as Magdeburg, that of the other three as Güsten. Johann Paulus is probably identical with J. P. Saxe, who repatriated 1705 and asked to be allowed to work his passage home. [6] He returned 1706 as sa. and was loaned, 6.11.1706, as farmhand to his brother, Peter Andreas. (CJ 1125: 137.)[7]
