Leopold (Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha) of Albany is a member of the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.

Prince Leopold was born on 7 Apr 1853 [1] in Buckingham Palace.[2] He was christened Prince Leopold George Duncan Albert, on 28 June 1853 in London, England.[3]

As a child, he spent time with his family at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight,[4] and at Windsor Castle in Berkshire. [5] He continued to reside at Windsor Castle as a young man, with his widowed mother Queen Victoria.[6]

He became a Freemason on 1 May 1874 while at Oxford.[7]

He suffered from hemophilia yet lived to age 31.[8] In 1882, he married Helene Waldeck und Pyrmont.[9] In 1884, while en route to Darmstadt for the marriage of his neice, Princess Victoria Alberta of Hesse, he stopped in Cannes, France for about two weeks. After attending a festival at the Nautical Club while leaving he fell on the grand staircase which soon after resulted in his death.[9][10]

Leopold George Duncan Albert Duke Albany died on 28 March 1884 in Cannes, France, and his estate passed probate on 1 July 1884.[11]
