PTE. T. SAGE.
Friends of Pte. T. Sage, son of Mr. Sam Sage of Port Lincoln, and formerly of Angaston, will regret to hear that he has been killed in action against the Turks at the Dardanelles. Deceased was 25 years of age, and was born at Angaston, where he spent the greater part of his life. After the family went to the west coast he was employed in the Forest Department there. Later he and one of his brothers (Mr. C. F. Sage) took up land at Wentworth, and indulged in fruitgrowing. Deceased enlisted in New South Wales, and went to the front with the 8th Battalion from Victoria. He was popular with all who knew him, and was well known in athletic circles. Soldierly qualities have been prominently associated with the family for generations. Pte. Sage's grandfather served with the British Navy in the Crimean war, and was the only one out of a certain party of eight sailors who came out of one engagement alive. His great-great-grandfather was in charge of an English ship at the time of the Napoleonic wars, and, with his two sons (midshipmen), was lost at sea. The late Pte. Sage once had a desire to join the British Navy. When volunteers were called for in the present war he eagerly responded. [1]
