Biography

European Aristocracy
Thomas Salusbury was a member of the aristocracy in British Isles.

Thomas Henry Salusbury, of Lleweni Hall, Dyffryn Clwyd, Denbighshire, Wales, is recorded as the son of Henry Salusbury (1372-) and his wife Agnes (Courtois) Salusbury (1378-1409).[2][3] Alternate spellings for the family name include Salisbury and Salesbury.

In 1462, Thomas Salesbury was steward of Dyffryn Clwyd.[4]

He married Elizabeth Donne (abt.1420-), daughter of Jenkin (or John) Donne of Utkinton, Cheshire, England. [2][3] They had 5 sons: Thomas: (d: 1505); Folk or Fowcc: Dean of St. Asaph before 1505 (d: 1543); Henry; Robert (b: ca. 1470); & John Salusbury. [5]

An account addressed "To my master Thos. Salysbury" records the names of 3 of his sons "Harre Asalusbr', Folk Salisber', and Jhon Asalusbr" who were possibly students at the University of Oxford. The items in the account include commons, contributions to the manciple's stipend, material for gowns, coals, candles, ink and paper.[6]

The Dictionary of Welsh Biography states that Thomas Salusbury died at the Battle of Barnet, 14 April 1471 in Hertfordshire, England. Other sources such as Lloyd's History of Powys Fadog says that Thomas was living in 1473 (12 Edw IV) but it also states that he fell at the Battle of Barnet, which occurred in April 1471.[3] Bartrum indicates that he died in 1490.[2] This biography accepts the Dictionary of Welsh Biography's assertion that he died at the Battle of Barnet in 1471. Salisbury-317 and Salusbury-16 appear to represent the same person because: Both profiles are for Thomas Salusbury of Lleweni who is reputed to have fought at the Battle of Barnet in 1471.

Hi Jo,

I have tried to place Foulke/Fulk before, and I suspect that this is the wrong Thomas and it should be Thomas Salusbury (abt.1469-abt.1506). I have some written notes (sorry didn't leave a source; Memo to self - Idiot) that say he was born about 1498 and died Aug 30 1539. Also that he was the son of Sir Roger and Elspeth Puleston (i.e. son of Roger Salusbury (abt.1491-abt.1530)). After which I have written. "This must be wrong. Possible his father Thomas". That would be Thomas Salusbury (abt.1469-abt.1506).

So for the time being I am holding fire. If you have other good sources to prove/disprove, please let me know

The first sentence in his biography doesn't make sense (He was killed at the Battle of Barnet Howell ap David of Nannau. ) Should there be a full stop and new line after Barnet ?

Also, perhaps his death should be the last entry in his biography, and not the beginning.  ;o)

We can also add another source to this: https://biography.wales/article/s-SALU-LLE-1250

I am not pre-1500 certified yet, so could someone that is please make these changes ?

Cheers Jo

Having written to people without receiving a response would you be so good as to change them to Salusbury now. We are actually looking at the Salusbury family of Lleweni Hall as part of the Wales Project, so your help would be much appreciated.

Hi Michelle,

The often mis-spelt Salusbury family of Llewen(n)i Hall are the nightmare for genealogists. We are working our way through converting them, and deleting the anglicised and inaccurate Salisbury, Would be so kind as to do this in this profile, please?
