Jacob Placer first married Julia Ann Salisbury, and they had children Amanda Jane (m. Alloway), Mary E. (m/ Salisbury, probably a relative of her mother Julia), and Henry Jackson (m. Lilly Anna Goosman, his stepsister, a daughter of Rebecca).
All of those children were born by 1870. I find them all in later marriages, but I cannot find them, nor Julia in the 1880 census. So I am thinking that Julia either died or divorced Jacob after 1870. If Julia remarried, the children may show up under a different surname in 1880. But the children all have the Placer name with their later marriages, so they did not change their own surname to any adoptive or step-father name.
Pat Foster recalled that Jacob's first wife Julia remarrried about the same time Jacob married Rebecca, in 1880.
6/14/2014 - Julia married William Barr in 1880. The 1880 Census shows William and Julia living in Grandview, Washington Co., OH. Amanda, Mary and Henry are all listed with the last name Barr. Additional children listed are Adam (age 5), Nathaniel and Emmanuel (both age 2). Although these three children were born before the marriage, their birth records show William and Julia as the parents. cp
