Biography

Daniel was born about 1737. Daniel Salter ... [1]


Daniel Salter, son of above Ebenezer Salter and Rebecca Stillwell was one of first settlers at Fayetteville. He was an inn keeper of Black Horse and owned lots of land on Staton Island, New York, and in New Jersey. When the British came to Staton Island they billeted themselves upon him and made way with most of his movable property. He was a constable in 1784 on Staton Island. He removed to Bergen Co., N. Jersey, which was the included in Hudson Co. He married a Miss Ellis by who he had the following children: John, Ebenezer, David and Richard. He married (2) Patience Headdy or Hadden by which he had William, Amos and Joseph. Reference - The Com. of Am. Genealogy, Vol. VI, P. 808, also Vol. III, P. 519. Also Memorial Notices and Notices of Geo. W. Salter by Stillwell – 1882. Also grave records. Note: Mrs. Paine who is librarian of our Lincoln Historical Society here in Lincoln, Nebr. Checked this information on the other side of this page ((above info)) while she was in Washington, D. C. during the Christmas holidays. She says it is correct.

  • Handwritten information was mailed to my father, Woodrow Salter, in the mid-1950’s – listing the 8 generations of our Salter family from Captain Richard Salter through my grandfather, Walter Salter. Other information about most of these Salter men was included. Also listed were their spouse/s and children.
