Biography

This profile is part of the Salyer Name Study.

Isaiah was born in 1752. He passed away in 1818.

Isaiah was married at least 3 times. The mother of the two oldest sons may have been a Salyer or Sailor and the children born on Anderson's Creek, Rowan County. The next six children were born in Virginia and the three youngest by Mary Carty were born on the Cumberland River, Knox County, KY.

Legend has it that Isaiah was a Tory and had to leave North Carolina and take up the alias of Still. He supposedly also left his first family.

Isaiah Salyer sold most of his land in Russell County, Va. in 1800 and moved his family to the Cumberland River section of Knox County, Kentucky where he was given a grant for 150 acres. His land was located on the north side of the river below Ashers Ford. For some unknown reason Isaiah returned to Russell County with all of his children in 1807, he purchased land and remained in Russell County until he died in December 1818.

What sources have been used to identify his wife? ancestry.com researchers have her as Mary McCarty, daughter of Daniel McCarty and Sinah Ball. I have entered McCarty-3210 for her, but it should not be merged. Either Mary Carty or Mary McCarty should be verified and the other removed.
