Velma was born in Sydney, Cape Breton to Joe Sampson and Mary Sampson (nee Sampson). She is the 2dn oldest of eight children. Her eldest brother Al (also known as Jim) passed away in 1996.
Velma lived briefly in Greenwood, Nova Scotia (at about age 5) until moving to CFB Slemon Park, Summerside, PEI with her family. Her father was a member of the RCAF. At age 13 the family moved to CFB Uplands (Ottawa), Ontario. In 1967 her father was transferred to CFB Cold Lake, Alberta, and Velma remained behind, working as a secretary for the DND on the base at Uplands. She married in 1969 and has two children of the marriage. She studied law at Algonquin College and worked most of her life as a Paralegal (Law Clerk).
In 1987 she moved to Toronto where she continued working in the legal profession until a move brought her back to Atlantic Canada in 2012. She currently lives in Moncton, NB and is an holistic practitioner working as an energy therapist in the modalities of Reiki and Therapeutic Touch.
A published poet and writer, she is also a prolific blogger and maintains both a personal and business website.
She is the grandmother of 3 boys and 1 girl, born to her youngest daughter, Michelle and her husband Steve, who live in Ottawa, Ontario; and, 2 boys adopted by her daughter Christine and her husband Olle, who live in Stockholm, Sweden.
Velma's mother also passed away in 1996 and her father in 2007. She is the oldest surviving member of her family.

You are now a member of the WikiTree Community. Please note we are trying to build one Collaborative Tree which means one profile per person. It is important to ensure no duplicates are entered as you add any Profiles to WikiTree.
If you need any help getting started check out the help section from the menu, top left, or head over to the G2G forum, you might want to check out the introductory WikiTree video that a member created.
Our Mentor Team are a friendly bunch of volunteers who will be glad to help you with specific problems if you have any.
