Biography

Margaret S. Brandt of Long Beach passed away December 19, 2011 in her home, following a brief hospital stay. Margaret was born September 4, 1916 to the late William and Euphamia Booey Samson, in Cinncinnati, Iowa. She was the youngest of eight children, all deceased. During WWII she was employed at an ammunition plant in Des Moines, loading gun powder into cartridge cups. Following the war she was employed at the hospital and dry cleaning plant in Centerville, IA. In 1965 Margaret relocated to Long Beach, which she so dearly loved, and stayed the rest of her life. In 1972 she married the late George L. Brandt, who preceded her in death in 1991; stepson Jim Brandt died in 1995. Margaret is survived by daughter-in-law, Diane Brandt Miskiel (Joseph); two nieces, Charlene Doney of Chandler, AZ; Mary Virginia Stanfel of Rockford II; and a large number of great great great nieces and nephews. Burial will be private, followed by a Celebration of Life to be held in January 2012 at Belmont Heights United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for 13 years. Her favorite past times were singing, attending Wednesday AM band concerts at LB Sr. Center and going out for lunch.
