Biography

Colson was born in 1758. He is the son of Beriah Samson and Alice Howland. [1]

His American Revolutionary War service included six months of 1776 as a private in Captain Thomas Turner's company of Colonel Gamaliel Bradford's Massachusetts Regiment stationed at Fort Castle William in Boston Harbor. He then served two months in Captain William Weston's company at the fort in Plymouth Harbor. He enlisted in January 1777 for a year of Plymouth Harbor garrison duty with Captain Andrew Samson's company. He served six months of 1778 with Captain Calvin Curtis' company of Colonel Jacob's Massachusetts Regiment including the expedition to Rhode Island. He enlisted in the early summer of 1779 for nine months of service with Captain Bates' company of Colonel Gamaliel Bradford's regiment stationed at West Point.[2][3]

He married Chloe Atherton in Duxbury on 19 May 1782[4][1]

After his death, his wife, Chloe, collected a widow's pension for his military service during the War in the amount of $40 per six month period, beginning on 28 Jul 1839.[5]
