Ann (Samuel) Astley was born in Glamorgan, Wales.

Ann Louisa Samuel was born on 16 October 1851 and her birth was registered in the December quarter in Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan, Wales. [1] Her parents were William and Mary (Isitt) Samuel.

In the 1861 Census, Ann was at home with her widowed father William Samuel (an Iron Puddler, born about 1830 in Carmarthen, Wales) [2]and her younger siblings:

  • John Samuel aged 8
  • Sarah Samuel aged 6
  • Elizabeth Samuel aged 5.

In the 1871 Census, Ann Samuel (aged 19) was a Boarder at 7 Hugh Street in Upper Merthyr Tydfil [3] in the household of Thomas and Hannah Evans and their 2 year old son David.

In 1873 Ann Samuel married Edward Husley / Astley in Merthyr Tydfil. [4]

In the 1891 Census, Ann and Edward (a Coal Miner) Husley were at home at 18 White Street, Dowlais, Merthyr Tydfil [5] with their children:

  • John - a Coal Miner
  • Mary
  • Thomas - a Coal Miner
  • Elizabeth - a Dressmaker's Apprentice

In the 1911 Census, Ann (aged 59, widowed and described as a House Worker) was living at 17 White Street, Dowlais [7] with four of her unmarried adult children:

  • Thomas Astley aged 36 and employed as a Miner
  • Blodwen Astley aged 23 and described as a House Worker
  • William James Astley aged 18 and employed as a Miner
  • Osborne Astley aged 16 and employed as a Miner

She passed away on 27 February 1912 and her death was registered in the March quarter in Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan, Wales. [8]
