RESEARCH NOTES

Pheba Clark Sanders Smith, mother of Katherine “Katy” Sanders Lewis, was born in Alabama in 1832. She first married John R. Sanders in Poinsett County, Arkansas. They moved to Jack County, Texas, and started their family of two sons and three daughters. They divorced in October 1871, and Pheba married second to Austin J. Smith in Jack County, Texas, in 1874. They moved to Oklahoma about 1900.

John R. Sanders divorced Pheba Sanders on 26 February 1872 at Jack County, Texas. Jack County Case #118. A. J. Smith married Mrs. Pheba Clark on 22 February 1874, officiated by Thomas W. Williams, Justice of the Peace of Jack County, Texas. They married at the courthouse. Jack County Marriage records, Volume 2, page 32. Contributed by Searchers of Our Past, 5 Jan 2017.
