Biography
Ernie was a retired textile worker; the father of 5 children. His father died when he was 3 and a stepfather when he was 7. His beloved Mother passed when Ernie was 24. His only sibling, sister Charlotte, married an Australian soldier and moved to Melbourne; it was 40 years before she managed a trip to New Zealand to see her brother. There had been very limited contact between them, meaning there was no relationship with his family for his children. After meeting his sister Ernie made plans to visit Melbourne but died suddenly before he could visit. He was cremated at Bromley, Christchurch on 14th March 1978. Ashes interred at Salisbury Park Crematorium, Claremont, Timaru, New Zealand.
