Biography
Nancy Jane Sanders b. New Cumberland (Matthews) IN, 19 Sept. 1856, d. there 5 June 1914, buried IOOF Cemetery; married 28 Feb. 1858 to David E. Collins[1], son of Andrew SANDY Collins, b. 20 Nov. 1852, d. Matthews, 21 June, 1860, buried Olive Branch Cemetery. Methodists. Child:
- Rachel Ellen Collins b. Matthews, 4 Dec. 1858, m. Howard Riley Wright.[2]
Nancy's husband's father: "Andrew SANDY Collins, father of David E. Collins, went to California during the Gold Rush days. He wrote home that he had "struck it," was homesick, and was coming home by ship. Not arriving as expected, his son David placed ads in California papers seeking information. Mr. Couch [who provided this article,] has five old letters from gold miners from "Murphy's Digging,” etc., saying they knew Collins. One says he saw Andrew board a schooner and sail, and that he later read that the boat was found off the coast of Mexico, bottoms up, all passengers presumed drowned."[3]
