William Lauchlan 'Lauchie' Sanderson was born 23 October 1890 in Oamaru, Otago, New Zealand. He was the fifth son of William Sanderson and Augusta Dalgleish. [1]
The family moved to Western Australia in 1891.On 31st October 1914 William was commissioned in the Australian Imperial Force for military service overseas during the First World War. He served with the 4th Australian Field Artillery Brigade, a unit of the 4th Brigade, on the Western Front and attain the rank of Captain. He returned to Australia 5th December 1919. [2] Following the war he was awarded the campaign and service medals 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
William married Eileen O'Neill in 1923 in Perth, Western Australia. [3]
He passed away 22 July 1957 in Adelaide and is buried in Centennial Park Cemetery, Pasadena, South Australia. [4]
