Research Notes

The Father of Joseph Sanderson Jr?

  1. John Spencer, was probably not the father; the child would have been about 5 years old at their marriage.
  2. Joseph Sanderson Although Bethiah claimed he was the father, he is probably not the biological father. [4]
  3. William Lakin is the probable father; In 2018, y-DNA research genetic testing of descendants indicates that Joseph Sanderson does not match the Sanderson family. Instead he matches the Lakin family of Groton. William Lakin of this family was close in age to Bethiah, and lived in the same Garrison House in Groton. See here for more information: [5][6]
  4. James Lakin is possible due to same y-DNA connection as his brother, William, but at 7 years younger than Bethiah, this is less likely.

Sanderson-3892 and Sanderson-365 appear to represent the same person because: same wife

Sanderson-3206 and Sanderson-365 appear to represent the same person because: Same person after sourced verified corrections. A merger of the "double Joseph son's profiles" 365 & 3206 should be done.

Following on the comment below, only one of the Joseph’s is the husband of Sarah Page - this profile or Joseph Sanderson. They are clearly different people so it seems that one will need to be removed as the husband of Sarah and father of Joseph. If there isn’t clarity maybe a research note could be added about the alternative husband/father? Thanks for any guidance /assistance to resolve this! Gillian

Hi there appear to be two candidates as the husband of Sarah Page - this profile and Joseph Sanderson. They are clearly different people so it seems that one will need to be removed as the husband. Any guidance? Thanks!

Thanks Gillian, Your comment prompted me to review the profiles and see the obvious errors. They are the same person, just some data from other Joseph's bios mixed-up. There are multiple Josephs, Williams, Roberts and Edwards in pockets of a few generations in the Sanderson/Saunderson/Lakin line. I corrected "my Joseph Sanderson profile" with the accurate sourced bio facts from others, so that it now is a likely merge candidate. Many of these situations are problems throughout this family and others. My biggest concern is whether one should linking-up the true biological (DNA confirmed) fathers with their lines. In some situations the child never lived with their surname families; others never knew their biological father. What are your thoughts?

I agree 100% Chris. I think the birth record probably refers to a different Robert and Elizabeth. This is most likely a relative, but who? Could you look into it, so we can correct the parents?

Elizabeth cannot be his mother as she would be too old
