Biography

Thomas Jefferson Sandlin was born 23 June 1875.[1] The 1880, 1900, 1910 censuses show he was born in Alabama. The 1920, 1930 and 1940 Censuses show he was born in Mississippi. He was the son of Daniel J. Sandlin and Nancy Ann Crim. In the 1880 census, "TJ" Sandlin, age 5, lived in Walker County, Alabama, with his parents and his six siblings.[2]

He married Ella Tidwell, 1 April 1896 in Walker County, Alabama.[3]

In 1900, Thomas J, age 24, lived in Beach Grove, Walker, Alabama with wife Ella and son Julius. Thomas was a coal miner and was married for 5 years. [4] In 1910, Thomas J, coal miner, age 32, lived in Pocahontas, Walker, Alabama with wife Ellan and their five children.[5]

He registered for the draft (World War I), 12 September 1918, in Walker County, Alabama. He was 43 years old and was employed as a coal miner for Dale Brothers in Carbon Hill, Walker, Alabama. Full name and birth date were listed on the registration.[1]

In 1920, Thomas J, famer, age 44, lived in Walker County, Alabama with wife Ella and their six children. [6] In 1930, Thomas J, coal miner, age 53, lived in Carbon Hill, Walker, Alabama with wife Ella, their five children, daughter in law and grandchildren.[7] In 1940, Tom Sandlin, age 64, lived in Carbon Hill, Walker, Alabama with wife Ella, sons Frellon and Clifton; daughter Johnny and grandson Walter.[8]

Thomas Jefferson Sandlin died 28 May 1946 in Carbon Hill, Walker, Alabama and was buried at McDade Cemetery in Carbon Hill, Walker, Alabama.[9][10]
