Keep in mind that the spellings of the name vary greatly. Have also seen it as Sanderlin, Sandelands, etc.
In the 1790 census of York Co., SC, Wm. Sandland lives near several of his sons-in-law. By the 1800 census he was deceased several of his children remain. By then his widow Massey had re-married a Manning of the same neighborhood. ( See Findagrave for their family cemetery in York Co., SC.)
In the 1790 census for Franklin Co., NC we see widow Elizabeth, John and James Sandlen or Sandlin? (These were brothers, sister-in-law, etc., who remained behind). See also the Sandling Family Cemetery in Franklinton, Franklin Co. NC for some of these folks.
