Biography

Mary Sanford was born on February 1,1756 in Newport, Newport Co., Rhode Island.[1] She was the daughter of Benjamin Sanford and Amelia (Bentley) Sanford.[2] As a child she sailed from Newport on the sloop Sally with her parents as part of the New England Planter migration. They arrived in Falmouth Township, Hants, Nova Scotia in May 1760.[3] The family moved across the river to Newport Township, presumably when Benjamin bought land in 1763.[4] Mary married Jonathan Loomer on February 8, 1776,[5][6] most likely in Cornwallis Township, Kings, Nova Scotia. She passed away in on December 19, 1826 in Upper Pereaux, Cornwallis,[7] and is buried in the Pereaux Cemetery.[8]
