Biography

John Sanford, son of Benjamin Sanford and Amelia Bentley, was born 1 Apr 1776 at Horton, Kings, Nova Scotia.[1][2] He died 6 Apr 1842 and is buried at Pereau Cemetery.[2] John married first in 1800, Waity, daughter of Charles and Hannah (Huntley) Palmeter,[1][2] who was born 11 Mar 1771 and died 21 Feb 1813.

Little is known of the life of John Sanford. No records are available and any that might have been in existence could have been destroyed by fire. He was a member of the Cornwallis New Light Church before 1799. This was located originally at Chipman's Corner and then moved to Hamilton or Jaw Bone Corner. The memberships includes Deborah, Ruth, Samuel and Sarah Sanford. The Palmeter family lived at Grand Pre so we might assume that John being born at Horton, which was the township, was living in the same area.[2]

John Pineo was ordained just previous to 1819 and was the pastor of the Cornwallis New Light Church. Thaddeus Harris and John Sanford are listed as Deacons. John Sanford may have moved to Pereau when he married. On 13 Jul 1812 his father deeded land to him on the Pereau River.[2]

Lucy's father was Solomon Farnsworth, born 13 Oct 1738 at Groton, Massachusetts. He married Lucy Farnsworth, his cousin, on 6 Dec 1770 in Nova Scotia. Solomon and Lucy had five children, the third being Lucy, who married James, son of David and Deborah (White) Eaton as his second wife. On his death she married John Sanford. One of the children of James Eaton and Lucy was Caroline. She married Benjamin Sanford (born 12 Oct 1802).[2]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

With your group permission :) I'd like to change the mother of Waity Sanford to Lucy Farnsworth on both parents' profiles. I will add a rather austere photo of Lucy in the next few days.
