Biography

Joel was born 23 Mar 1814 in Hubbell Corners, Delaware County, New York. He was the son of Cyrenus Sanford and Ann Hubbell.

Joel Sanford and Jane Osterhoudt were married about 1837.[1]

In 1850 he was living in Whiteside, Illinois.[2] The household included Joel Sandford 36, Jane M Sandford 34, Levi Sandford 11, George Sandford 10, Pamela Sandford 8, Andrew Sandford 7, William Sandford 6, Harriet Sandford 0, Lawrence Woolcot 45, Mary J Campbell 25. Joel was a miller. Lawrence was a laborer.

Joel was an Elder in the Old School Baptist Church in Buffalo Grove.[1]

In 1860 he was living in Jordan, Whiteside, Illinois.[3] The household included Joel Sanford 46, Jane M Sanford 44, Lewis Sanford 21, George Sanford 20, Andover Sanford 17, William Sanford 15, Parmilla Sanford 18, Harriett Sanford 10, Richd Sanford 9, Wallace Sanford 7. Joel was a farmer. Levi, George, Andrew and William were farm laborers.

Joel and his wife moved to Oregon in 1865[1].

In 1870 he was living in Aumsville, Marion, Oregon.[4] The household included Joel Sanford 54, Jane M Sanford 53, Geo W Sanford 31, Richard Sanford 19, Wallace Sanford 16. Joel was a farmer. George was a millwright.

In 1880 he was living in Stayton, Marion, Oregon.[5] The household included Joel Sanford 66, wife Jane M. Sanford 64, son Andrew J. Sanford 37. Joel was working at a saw mill. Andrew was a carpenter. George Sanford lived next door.

Research Notes

Children identified in the Ogle County history[1] include Levi, Andrew, Richard, Wallace, William, Pauline and Harriett of Iowa and George of Oregon.
