George Sanford was born in England.



George was born in 1796 in England; he was the son of Lt Col Sanford of the Light Dragoons.

He married Ann (unknown) in about 1822 in England; they had children. George was resident in Grahamstown as he was the Assistant Commissary General to the Forces. His wife passed away in 1838.

He then married Ann Forbes Heathcote as was reported in the Grahamstown Journal of Thursday 8 August 1839:[1][2][3]

MARRIED in St. George's Church, Graham's Town on Tuesday the 9th ultimo by the Rev Henry Frazer AB, Geo. Charles Sanford Esq, Assistant Commissary General to the Forces, to Ann Forbes, fourth daughter of Vice Admiral Sir Henry Heathcote Knt.

George passed away in Grahamstown at the age of 47.[4]
