Eliza Santer was born in 1807 and baptised on 7 August 1807 in Benenden, Kent, England [1], the daughter of Samuel Santer and Mary Judge and she was the sister of Edward Hains Santer [half], Judith Santer [half], Maria (Santer) Winser, Jane Santer, Samuel Santer, Mary Santer and Harriett (Santer) Tayler.
Eliza married William Oxley on 4 June 1829 in Benenden, Kent, England [2] and their children were Mary Anne (Oxley) Baker, Albert Oxley, Owen Oxley, Rachael Oxley, Jane Elizabeth (Oxley) Arnold and William Iden Oxley. Sadly, their son Albert died on 23 February 1832
Eliza and William with their three children, Mary, Owen and Rachael, sailed from London on 29 December 1838 aboard the "Roxborough Castle" for New South Wales. Unfortunately, their daughter Rachael Oxley was seriously scalded prior to departure and died as a result of the injuries while en route. The grieving family arrived at Sydney on 20 May 1839 as Assisted Immigrants [3] where they moved to and settled at Mudgee, New South Wales, Australia.
Eliza's husband William was appointed as a Constable at Mudgee in 1851. He died, as a result of injuries inflicted when interceding in a drunken brawl between Maurice Dalton and James Brandon, on 19 May 1853.
Eliza passed away on 4 January 1869 at Mudgee, New South Wales, Australia [4] and was buried in the Mudgee Memorial Park Cemetery, Mudgee, New South Wales, Australia [5].
