Biography

Katherine Winthrop Sargent was born 15 April 1775 in Amherst, Hillsborough, New Hampshire to Paul Dudley Sargent and Lucy Sanders Sargent.

Before 1790, the Sargent family moved from New Hampshire to Hancock County, Maine. Sargent became the first Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas; the first Judge of Probate; and Justice of the Peace in Hancock County, Maine.

Katherine married Theodore Jones - his second wife - 26 November 1793 in Sullivan, Hancock County, Maine. He was the son of Nathan Jones and Sarah Severns Jones. The Columbian Centinel noted: "Sargent, Catharine, daughter of Paul Dudley Sargent Esq., m. Theodore Jones, of Frenchman's Bay, town of Sullivan, in County of Hancock."

Theodore and Katherine Jones had children. The sons and daughters listed here appeared in the will of Theodore Jones filed in 1842: Katherine Jones Pond, Sarah Brindley Jones, Mary Elizabeth Jones Langdon, Ann Jones Dudley, Lucy Saunders Jones, Charlotte Parsons Jones, Theodore Jones, Ellen Cobb Jones Foster, John Winthrop Jones, and Thomas Dudley Jones. They lost a son, Paul Dudley Sargent Jones, in 1813 at 14 years of age.)

Katherine Sargent Jones died 8 May 1848 in Ellsworth, Hancock County, Maine. She was buried at Woodbine Cemetery, Ellsworth.
