One tradition says Elizabeth Saunders (daughter of Tobias Saunders) married James Babcock.
Another tradition has his wife as Elizabeth Babbit.
Inscribed on the grave of the wife of James Babcock is : "Here lieth intered ye body of elizabeth, ye wife of Capt. James Babcock, died March ye 3rd 1730-1 in the 69th year of her age."
