George Saunders was born in Nassau, Bahamas in March 1772 to Joseph Saunders and Ann Gascoigne Saunders. He was baptized 27 April 1773 at Christ Church.
He married twice: first, to Mary Southall, daughter of Robert Southall, in Nassau in 1793. The couple had children Lucretia, Joseph William, Mary Ann, and George Joseph Saunders. Mary Southall Saunders died in 1811 and George married, second, Ann Brooks Meares: "Married, last evening by the Reverend John Stephen, Captain George Saunders to Ann Brooks Mears, daughter of Richard Meares." They had a son, George Samuel, in 1814.
Captain George Saunders, Master Mariner, died in Nassau, Bahamas 14 November 1815. The Royal Gazette noted: "Died, on Monday last, Captain George Saunders, in the 43rd year of his age." His will was proved 24 November 1815.
