Richard Saunders was baptized on 29 December 1564 in Dinton, Buckinghamshire, England, a son of John Saunders and Elizabeth Puttenham.
He married Elizabeth Blount on 8 May 1587 at the Church of Saint James in Clerkenwell, Middlesex, England.
Richard Saunders and Elizabeth Blount were the parents of the following children.
1. John Saunders (m. Anne Hawtrey). 2. Thomas Saunders (m. Alice Watkins). 3. Francis Saunders (m. Susan Lovett). 4. Richard Saunders (m. Elizabeth ______). 5. Mary Saunders (m. Richard Duncombe). 6. Sarah Saunders (m. Anthony Barker). 7. Anne Saunders (m. Robert Lovett).
He was buried on 24 October 1601.
His widow married Christopher Hoddesdon on 2 February 1602/03 in Dinton, Buckinghamshire, England.
Richard Saunders was born about 1560 at the Manor of Amersham, Buckinghamshire. Parents were John Saunders and Elizabeth Puttenham.
He married Anne Isham [1] [1] daughter of John of Lamport, Northamptonshire. Many genealogy sources claim that they had a daughter Susan who was buried in Amersham in March 1585 but the 1634 Visitation referenced here says Susan was buried 27 Apr 1584 "S.P." (Sine Prole, without offspring) so if this Richard did have a daughter Susan, perhaps she was the daughter of his second wife Elizabeth Blount. More research is needed.
He second married Elizabeth Blount (b. 1572) of Blountshall, Leicestershire, England and they had these children found to-date:
The Manor of Amersham was sold in 1624 to William Tothill and the particulars of sale show that at that time it was tenanted by Francis Saunders and Sir Thomas Saunders (knighted at Newmarket in reign of James I). These were two of the sons of Richard and Elizabeth and the last Saunders to occupy. (See "Borrow" reference)
This Richard died 22 Oct 1601 and was (likely) buried 24 Oct 1601 in Dinton, Buckinghamshire[5].
Richard died in October 1601 and was buried in Saint Peter and Saint Paul Churchyard, Dinton, Aylesbury Vale District, Buckinghamshire, England.[6]
Supporting evidence for the 1601 death, partly based on there being only one known John Saunders was born to a Richard Saunders in Amersham at this time and research kindly done by Helen Ford of G2G provided this additional detail associating John with this Richard and helping solidify Richard's death date of 1601:
These are the entries from the National Archives Catalogue that suggested to me that Saunders-39 was the man who died in 1601 not 1629
1) Reference: E 179/79/246 Description: County: Buckinghamshire Document description: Constat, 1 mem.
This constat states that John Saunders, son and heir of the late Richard Saunders, esq, of Buckinghamshire (d. 22 October 1601), is a ward of King James, in respect of the unidentified land held by his father from Elizabeth by knight service on the day of his death. Estimated date of document: [1601 or later]
2) Reference: C 2/JasI/H35/74 Description: Short title: Hoddesden v Pope. Plaintiffs: Sir Christopher Hoddesden and Elizabeth Hoddesden his wife. Defendants: Sir Thomas Pope Blunt. Subject: lands in Pitchcott, Buckinghamshire, settled on plaintiff Elizabeth Hoddesden by Richard Saunders her former husband, and rectory of Donnington [Dinton], Buckinghamshire, in lieu of lands in Ruislip, Middlesex.
Lastly ,the old Dictionary of National Biography states that Sir Christopher Hoddeston who died in 1611 took as his second wife
"Elizabeth, daughter of William Blount of Olbaston, Leicestershire, whom he made his sole executrix, and by whom he had no issue.
Additionally this family appears in the 1634 Visitation of Buckingham showing Richard "of Denton" married first to Anne Isham, then Elizabeth Blount with son John who then married Anne Hawtrey, daughter of William.[1]
The nuncupative will of Richard Saunders of Dinton, Buckinghamshire was proven 28 Nov 1601 by his wife Elizabeth; it basically leaves everything to be divided between his wife Elizabeth and his un-named children.[7]
Elizabeth was the daughter of Walter Blount of Blounts Hall, Osbaston, Leicestershire. After Richard's death she married Sir Christopher Hoddesdon; as Hoddesdon's wife she appears in several legal proceedings helping to differentiate this Richard from the miller who died in 1629.
Extensive G2G discussions and research during Jan/Feb 2020 have determined that this armigerous Richard has been conflated with another Richard Saunders of Amersham, both of whom had children at about the same time. That G2G discussion is here.

This person cannot be the son of Lawrence Saunders, because Lawrence only had one son, Samuel, and moreover died in 1655. See wikipedia:Laurence_Saunders
