Samuel was born about 1734 in Baltimore County, Maryland, and passed away in 1807 in Green County, Kentucky.
The pioneer family of Samuel Sanders resided in several different sections of America, including Maryland, Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky. In Kentucky, they lived in settlements at Whitley's Station, Pitman's Station, Pottenger's Station and finally at Brush Creek, as well as a brief one-year stay at Mansker's Station in Tennessee in 1780.[1]

Private Samuel (Saunders) Sanders Sr. served during the French and Indian War.
Served in French & Indian Wars, 1755-7. Private with Gen. Braddock & wounded in Rev. War. Also in US Navy... discharged 1779.[2]
Samuel is listed as a “Hunter”, age 22, in the Christopher Gist's Scouts in Jul 1756, as shown in the George Washington Collection in the Library of Congress.[3]
Revolutionary War Service is based on Family Tradition. No official record has been found and it is likely that he served in a local militia or militias in Southwestern Virginia where he was living at the time of the war. It has been proven that the Samuel Saunders who served in the 5th Virginia Regiment is NOT this Samuel Saunders who died in Green County, Kentucky.

Burial: There is no known burial site, cemetery, or monument for Samuel Saunders, Sr. He is likely buried in Green County in an unmarked grave on or near his farm on Big Brush Creek across the road from the present-day Aetna Grove Baptist Church where he was living at the time of his death. The site of this farm is near the mouth of Big Brush Creek where it flows into the Green River
