Obituary 1 of Catherine S Schaffer Bartholomew

Source: West Concord Enterprise 3/20/1902 Died At the home of her son, Geo. Bartholomew, of this place, March 10, 1902, Mrs. Catherine S. Bartholomew, aged 87 years and 7 months. Deceased was born in Stearling, Cameron county, Penn., and there grew to womanhood. Nov 27, 1835 she was united in marriage to Wendall Bartholomew, and to them were born ten children, eight of whom are living, and all but one present at the funeral. The family came to Dodge county, wis, in 1749, where they remained 7 years. Then a move westward brought them to dodge county, Minn. Where the family has since resided. She well knew all the hardships of a frontier life, and did her part with a good will, always hopeful and looking to the bright side of events, believing that no cloud, however dark, but that had a silver lining. She was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church when 20 years of age, and all these years her faith in, and her loyalty to God, has nerved her heart and hands for life's battle. A good wife, a loving and self-sacrificing mother and a kind neighbor has gone to join the great majority. Funeral services were held in the Methodist church on Sunday p.m. by the pastor H.J. Harrington. Owing to the severity of the day but few could follow to the silent city of the dead. Tenderly we laid her beside her companion, who preceeded her more than a quarter of a century ago, there to wait God's own time and way.
