Biography

Barbara Schellenberger is named as the wife of John Kauffman, but evidence is sought to confirm.

Barbara is assumed to have been aged :

• 45 at most when her youngest son Christian was born in 1810, and she was thus probably born some time after 1765
• at least 20 when her oldest child was born c.1800, and thus born before 1780
• aged between 26 and 45 on the 1820 census aged between 26 and 45, and so must have been born between and 1775 and 1794
• ... and so her birthdate is estimated at 1777.

1820 ^[1] : In West Hempfield, Lancaster, PA : John Kauffman (age over 45). Household comprises :

1 male aged over 45 (assumed to be John)

1 female aged 26-45 (assumed to be his wife)

1 female aged 16-25 (assumed to be either Anna or Barbara)

2 males aged 10-16 (assumed to be sons John and Michael)

1 male aged under 10 (assumed to be son Christian)

She does not appear on the 1830 census, and is assumed to have died before then. ^[2]
