Biography

Abraham Schellinger aka Schellinx (son of Jacobus): birth as 11 Feb 1659, baptism 20 Sep 1662 in New Amsterdam.[1][2]

Today the surname can be found "Abrams Landing" on Gardiner's Bay, off Long Island. Also there is "Abrams Path".

Marriage: Abraham Schellinger (1659-1712) 15 Nov 1688 East Hampton LI, to Joanna Barnes. [4]

  3. William 3 b. April 9, 1694, was drowned Feb. 24, 1719, had wife Phebe his widow and infant sons William, Abraham. The widow Phebe m. Abraham Nott Oct. 8, 1722.
  4. Abraham 3 b. June 29, 1697, d. Nov. 5, 1718.
  5. Isaac b. March 17, 1699, no further trace.
  6. Anne or Amy 3 b. June 7, 1701, m. Joshua Plumb of New London, Ct. Nov. 11, 1723;

Will: Abraham Schellinx of East Hampton, Suffolk, NY to eldest son William all land in Amagansett, son Abraham one-half of Plumb Island as it is agreed upon and divided with Samuel Bebee and myself, to son Isaac three tracts od land in Westchester which I formerly bought of Robert Walters by deed dated 6 April 1705. Rest to all my children Johannah, Rachel, William, Abraham, Isaac, Anne and Zachariah (Zerviah?) to be paid to them when they come of age. Appointed Capt. Abraham Howell, Capt. Theo. Howell, Ebenezer White, Capt. Thomas Chatfield, William Schellinx and Isaac Hedges as exe. Dated 7 March 1709/10, proved 27 March 1712. Calendar of New York Wills Liber 8. [6]

Death: 1 Jan 1712 at East Hampton, NY.

Note: Abraham's second wife, Phillipa nee Hathaway, received the financial support of the church for several years and is listed as "non compos mentis". In these records it states that her husband was lost at sea, "lost in his many parts over the sea". Phillipa's daughter is also named as visiting and as a guardian. She was married to Abraham on 6 Oct, 1710, less than two years prior to his death. [7]
