Biography

William Roelofse Schenck was born between 1721 or 1727 in Flatlands, Kings County, New york, son of Roelof Schenck and Engeltie Van Doorn
William Schenck, moved from Monmouth county, New Jersey, to Hunterton county, New Jersey, long before the revolutionary war. His wife was Mary Winters, and three of his children were Ralph, John and Josiah, all in the American service as soldiers.[1]
William married on 5 October, 1747 in NJ Mary Winters (b. 1732- d. 29 Jan 1818), she was a daughter of of John Winter and Hannah Griffin.

Notes on his lengthy will

His will gives Mary use of the house and to have various household goods incl a feather bed and forty dollars for her immediate support. To sell the rest of his moveable and his real estate near that of Ralph Sutphin's Lane and to William Schenks (he describes the land at length!). He sets aside 1,000 dollars in trust for his wife Mary to be managed by the executors. Other money for daughter in law Sarah widow of dec'd son Abraham Schenck and also money for their dau Catherine, Mary, Elizabeth and Anne and a grandson William Schenck when he is of age. Daughter Catherine is dec'd but she has a daughter Macheh (sp?) Probasco when she marries. To son William Schenck the farm he now lives on but he must pay several thousand dollars of money to be put into trust and supply wood to his mother Mary. Then towards the end of various pages of his will he names his other children: his sons Ralph, John, Josiah and daughter Mary Simpson. And then the children of dec'd daughter Anne who were David Bishop, Joseph Bishop, Esther sp? Jewel, Mary Stout, Elizabeth Kershow, and unmarried Nancy Bishop. The to the children of son Abraham Schenck: Wm, Catherine, Mary, Eliz and Anne. He named Josiah Schenck of Somerset and David Bishop Sr. of Amwell as exes. 17 June 1806 probate 25 Dec 1806. [8]
