Robert Cummings Schenck, a Union Army general in the American Civil War, and American diplomatic representative to Brazil and the United Kingdom, was born on October 4, 1809, in Franklin, Ohio, to Gen., William C. Schenck and ElizabethRogers. He married Renelche Smith on August 21, 1834, in Setauket, New York. They had six children in 16 years. He was commissioned Brigdier General by President Lincoln in 1861, and resigned his commisson as Major General in 1863. He died on March 23, 1890, in Washington, District of Columbia, having lived a long life of 80 years, and was buried in Dayton, Ohio.

  • Gen Schenck was appointed as Minister to England by President Grant in 1870. He served in this position until 1875.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]
