Katherine Caroline Scherer was born on Aug. 28, 1913 to Philipp Scherer and Maria Miller at Indianapolis, Indiana.[1][2]
She moved with her parents to Johnson County, Indiana and was a member of the New Harmony Methodist Church. After high school graduation, she moved to Indianapolis to work.[3]
Katherine attended Anderson College, a Church of God Bible school in Anderson, Indiana. In 1942, she went to North Dakota as an assistant pastor and served the Bowdon Church of God with her friend Pastor Nancy Mitchelin. While serving in Bowdon, she met James William Patrie who was farming in the Heaton area.
Katherine moved to Stanley, Wisconsin where she then served at the Stanley Church of God. Katherine and James were married here on Oct. 17, 1943. They lived on their farm near Heaton for the rest of their lives.= where they raised their two daughters and three sons; Carol, Nina, Loren, Bill and Chuck.
Katherine remained an active member of the Bowdon Community Church of God. She served as Vacation Bible School director, church pianist, choir director and Sunday School superintendent. She was also an active member of the community, belonging to various parent organizations as well as a local birthday club and homemakers club. She was also a Stanley Products distributor.
Katherine died at the age of 88 years on Jan. 15, 2002 at the Arthur Care Center in Arthur, North Dakota.[4] She is buried at the Heaton Cemetery in Heaton, North Dakota.[5]
