Barent was a son of Leendert (Leonard) Schermerhorn and Mary Doty, born about 1781 in Schoharie, New York.[1]
Richard Schermerhorn said that Barent and his brothers Daniel, and Henry removed to Canada shortly before the war of 1812, and "their families were last heard from living near Napanee, Canada."[2]
