Biography

Charles was living with his parents in Galva, Henry, Illinois in 1860[1] and in Jackson Township, Floyd, Iowa in 1870.[2]

Charles served as a private and corporal in the US Civil War. He was in Company D, 3rd Regiment New York Cavalry, and in Company F 25th Wisconsin Infantry.[3]

Charles is still at home in 1880, and the family is still in Scott Township, Floyd County, Iowa.[4] Louisa Munion and Charles were married October 26, 1880 in Floyd County, Iowa.[5][6]

Cora and Charles were married October 10, 1887 in Emmetsburg, Palo Alto County, Iowa, USA.[7][8]

Charles and family were living in Stanley Township, Lyon County, Minnesota in 1905.[9] Charles was farming. The household comprised of Charles, Cora, Sawley who was also working as a farm laborer, Ora who was working as a farm laborer, Julius also a farm laborer, James, George, Shelby, and Barl. Many of the Schermerhorns were still in Stanley when the 1910 US Census was taken.[10] Charles is not listed, and Cora (Cara in the record) is listed as head. Cora is farming and her household consists of Sawley or Sankey?, Orie, Julius, James, George, Shelby, Burrell , and Inez. Charles is found in Brockway, Jackson, Wisconsin, and the couple are listed as divorced. With Charles is Orie, and a niece, Ella F. Simpson, and her husband, Thomas Simpson, a baker. Charles reported himself as divorced.[11] He was farming and Orie was on as a farm laborer.

Charles was living in Selby, Walworth, South Dakota in 1920.[12] Burrell and Inez were living with him. Charles was farming grain and stock.

Charles died May 30, 1927 in Markville, Minnesota.[13][14] He was buried in Markville, Minnesota.[13]
