Biography
Jacob was a son of Ryer Jacobse Schermerhorn and Ariantje Bradt. His birthdate is estimated as about 1690.
He was married in Albany, New York, on 20 November 1712 to Margarita Teller, daughter of John Teller and Susanna Wendel. Children of the marriage baptized in Schenectady, New York, were:

Jacob Ryerse Schermerhorn settled on the Schenectady Flatts in the Town of Rotterdam, New York, on an estate inherited from his father. His name appears on the roll of Capt. John Sanders Glen's Company of Schenectady in 1715. He attended the First Reformed Church of Schenectady and occupied Bench No. 6 as early as 1734. He was an elder of the Church in 1746 He died on July 4, 1753.
