Paul Schmid, son of Maria Lang and Johannes Schmid, was the father of the German Coast progenitor, Johann Adam Schmid. Paul Schmid married twice.

Anna Maria Schmid was baptized on March 31, 1684. wit dam Reidenhaus and Anna Schlos(in).
Marriage (2) Sabina Lang died 3 Sept 1689. Paul married Susanna Hart 2 March 1692 in Isny.

Catharina Schmid was baptized on May 19, 1692. wit: George Ulrich Schmidt and Barbara Stagmann, wife of Hans Martin Huber.

His name was spelled Schmid on his baptism document and on his marriage document. It began to be spelled Schmidt upon arrival in Louisiana. (phonetic spelling of the German "D" which the French heard as "DT")
