Biography

Herman Schmidt ... He passed away suddenly at Rama Road, Kaupokonui in 1906.at the age of 34.

He died from cardiac disease.

Herman had been in NZ for 5 years at time of his death.

He was a Dairy Farmer at Kaupokonui.

Came second place for the largest exhibited Rhubarb at the sixth annual Waimate Horticultural, Agricultural & Pastoral Society Show (17 Feb 1904) [1].

Extreme weather and bush fires in March 1904 saw the Schmidt homestead on Rama Road damaged and Herman was injured becoming unconscious having to be evacuated to Otakeho[2][3][4].

His father was Richard Schmidt from Tasmania His mother was Anna Dorothy ( Peiah ) Schmidt
